GRCA YEARBOOK FAQ

I haven't received a letter and my dog earned a title in 2007. Will I be receiving one?

The Yearbook Committee sends out award letters to owners as co-owners in Late March early April, but if you haven't received one yet, I'd be happy to forward it to you - just e-mail the Editor. Also, please check your spam filters as we know quite a few get Caught up in there.

Why can't I find my dog using the search engine?

The spelling of the dog's name must be entered exactly as the name appears on the dog's AKC registration slip or the search engine will not find a match. Try typing just PART of the dog's name or his call name (if you've provide that earlier) and his name should come up. Or the best method,  you can search on the AKC number.

Can I use a k9data pedigree to fill in the dpedigree gaps on my dog?

No. Because the yearbook is the official record of the GRCA, only information from sources of verified parentage goes into it. That usually means AKC- or CKC-certified pedigrees, but could be from registration slips or English pedigrees as well. k9data pedigrees are unverified sources of information and will not suffice for the purposes of the yearbook. The information on your own dogs may be correct in k9data, but there is also incorrect data there and we have no way of knowing which is which, so we cannot use it for the yearbook.

If you would like to fill in the holes in your dog's pedigree, we will ask you for an AKC-certified pedigree or AKC Registration slips. If you have one, you can either email it to us or fax it to 603-664-5600. If you do not have one, you can purchase one online from akc.org and forward it to us for inclusion in the yearbook. The online version costs only $10. The cost of including your dog's photos and pedigree in the yearbook used to be $35; it is now free if you upload the photos yourself and have a certified pedigree. Even if you have us scan, crop and upload a photo for you, the cost is $15. So 15+10= $25, still less expensive than it used to be.

However, the inclusion of a three-generation pedigree and photos is
completely optional. If you do not want to pay for a pedigree, you don't have to. Your dog will still be included in the yearbook with his parents listed.

Why am I not listed as the primary owner?

If there are multiple owners on a dog, whichever one falls first in the GRCA database is the one whose address appears. PLEASE let us know who the primary owner is and we will select a "use this owner's address" button in the database and that person will appear first on the list. Due to an unresolved problem with the Java script at the moment, though, the other co-owners cannot be ordered. We have tried multiple methods of getting around this and none have worked, but we are working on a solution.

Why is my dog's CGC not listed?

While a CGC is a wonderful accomplishment, it is certificate and not an AKC title, so these are not downloaded to us from the AKC. In the yearbook we include AKC, CKC, GRCA and English titles only. We do not recognize the CGC, TDI, search and rescue credentials, or titles from other other organizations such as UKC, USDAA, NADAC, or other international kennel clubs. Also, BIS, BISS and BOSS are honorifics but they are not titles.

Why is my dog's VCD date not listed?

The GRCA Yearbook likes to celebrate each Title separately and our own (GRCA) versatility program. The VCDs title do come from the AKC downloads and though they appear on the screen in the database they will not appear in any publication.

My dog earned a new title last month. Why isn't it listed on his yearbook page?

Congratulations! Rest assured, any titles earned in 2008 will be included in the 2008 yearbook; it will be added when we receive the AKC downloads of 2008 titles or information from the GRCA statisticians listing titles earned this year. Meanwhile, what we are working on now is the 2007 yearbook, the record of all titles earned by goldens last year. If your dog is in our database, go ahead and upload photos and let us know of any missing information.

I have a promising new puppy who isn't in the database. Can I add him?

The primary function of this database is to format the yearbook; it contains dogs who are titled as well as untitled dogs who are in the pedigrees of titled dogs. When your dog earns a title, he will be added to the database, but right now we are just concentrating on verifying information on the dogs who earned titles in 2007, so no, please do not attempt to add any other dogs at this point.

My dogs didn't earn any new titles in 2007, but can I add photos to my other dogs in the database?

Yes, please do! Update any information (especially call names) and add photographs. Just make sure that all photos are cropped to the dog and scanned at 300 dpi. After the initial rush of edits in April, we will post to the lists the web address of the yearbook data collection site and you can go in, add call names and photos on all of your dogs.

I sent in an edit a couple of days ago. Why hasn't the change been made?

We proof and verify all the edits that you enter. Remember the yearbook is for the Historical record and we try to have our facts correct. Sometime due to volume the it does take a few days to change or update the information. If we have any questions, your edit provides us with your email, so we will be able to contact you.

Canadian Titles

Our Canadian resource (CKC) is not so reliable and usually 6 months behind. Our Canadian Statistician does her best, but she could use some help. Please scan in the title certificate and email it to the Yearbook Editor. It would really help The Yearbook staff.

Directions for Photos

Please upload two or three scanned photos of your  titleholder, including a head study and action or stacked shot (for  conformation), cropped to the dog only. Please orient them as a landscape  or horizontal format. These photos may not be retouched. If you have sent  photos for a previous issue of the yearbook, you may submit new ones.  Photos should be scanned at 300 DPI, RGB image, 675 pixels in length and  500 pixels in height, and saved in JPG format. If the previous sentence is  a foreign language to you, you may scan the image at 300 DPI and email the  file toStarz@frii.com, one at a time please, with your dog’s registered  name in the title. We will crop, resize and upload for you.

If you prefer, you can snail mail the photo. Please contact me for details.

Thank you
