Skills Required:

Attention to detail
Basic knowledge of computers and software

Basic knowledge of archival concepts and techniques
Appreciation of the value of maintaining archival resources
Ability to develop and maintain indexes, and other guides
Ability to compose and edit written materials
Knowledge of available sources of archival materials

Responsibilities:

Plans, organizes, maintains and preserves both print and non-print archival collections.

Encourages gifts of material from private sources, and evaluates materials received for suitability of inclusion in the GRCA archives.

Requests or recommends for purchase, pertinent materials that are not available from private donors, but are of value for inclusion in the archives.

Serves as a repository for the historical records of the GRCA to include but not be limited to: GRCA Articles of Incorporation, original and updated versions of Bylaws, meeting minutes, revisions of the breed standard, and other materials of similar nature entrusted to the care of the archivist

Prepares descriptions and reference aids for use of the archives, such as lists, indexes, guides, bibliographies, abstracts, etc.

Keeps up-to-date inventory of items included in archives.

Follows appropriate procedures for the processing and preservation of all archival materials.

Maintains archival materials in a secure location and ensures that materials are not lost, stolen, or damaged.

Maintains all files and records in a usable format

Serves as an educational resource to GRCA committees and members, as well as outside sources as needed.

Maintains contact with GRCA Committee chairmen such as the Historian, education, etc.

Maintains complete collections of: GRNews, National Specialty catalogs, National Specialty winners scrapbook, GRCA Yearbooks, and official GRCA publications

Maintains collection of published materials on the Golden Retriever to include trade books, breed specific magazines, foreign publications (such as British yearbooks), etc

Provides an annual report to the Board

Promptly notify GRCA Board, via Club Secretary, if unable to fulfill responsibilities.

Turns over complete files and records to successor
