JUNIOR HANDLER OF THE YEAR

1. This trophy will be awarded annually to the Top Junior Showman in the GRCA

2. In order to be eligible for this award, the Junior must be a GRCA member in good standing or part of a family membership in good standing during the year the Junior is competing for the award and the year it is awarded. The Junior, if part of a family membership, must be a direct relative or foster child of a GRCA member in good standing as defined by the American Kennel Club.

OR:

A non-member Junior may be sponsored by a GRCA member in good standing. For a GRCA member to sponsor a non-member Junior, the GRCA member shall submit, in writing, the name, age and a brief reason for sponsorship to the GRCA Junior Showmanship Chairman during the calendar year the Junior is eligible for the trophy, and must maintain sponsorship during the year in which the trophy is awarded, unless the Junior becomes eligible as in #2 above.

3. If at some point during the calendar year of competition the Junior becomes ineligible due to age, he or she would still be eligible for the award at the following Awards Banquet, provided the Junior is still a GRCA member or has been properly sponsored.

4. Only wins earned while competing in the Junior Showmanship classes at AKC licensed or member shows while handling a Golden Retriever will be counted toward the awarding of points.

5. Points will be awarded for wins during the calendar year (January 1 - December 31) and the trophy will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet during the following year.

6. Points will be computed on the number of Juniors defeated throughout the calendar year. A Junior will receive one (1) point for all other Junior competitors defeated. A Junior must have won a first, second, third, or fourth class placement in order to be considered as having defeated other Juniors in a class. No distinction will be made between the levels (Novice or Open) or age divisions (Junior or Senior) of the classes.

For example, in a class of 20 competitors with Juniors handling Golden Retrievers winning all placements, the points earned will be as follows:

First = 19    Second = 18    Third = 17   Fourth = 16

Awards for Best Junior Handler will not be counted toward this trophy.

7. The annual point totals will be computed by the appointed GRCA Junior Showmanship Chairman from the results as listed in the AKC show awards publication.  Juniors are directly responsible for bringing any errors printed in this publication to the attention of the AKC and the GRCA prior to June 1 of the award year.

8. All Juniors should submit their names and proof of eligibility (see #2 above) by June 1 of the award year (the year following in which the wins were earned).

9. In case of a tie, the Junior with the highest number of first place wins will earn the trophy.
